Elaine Luttrull, founder of Minerva Financial Arts and personal project manager for The Clark Hulings Fund’s Business Accelerator Program, writes about the challenges that working artists face—and the methods to overcome those challenges—in Strategic Planning in Action. The piece, in Professional Artist Magazine’s December/January 2018 print issue, features CHF Business Accelerator Fellows Holly Van Hart and Willy Bo Richardson, and CHF Executive Director Elizabeth Hulings.
“But what if you don’t want to draft a strategic plan? Or what if you have one, but you aren’t ready to take action on it? Hulings poses one questions in response. ‘Is it important to you to support yourself through the creation of your work?’ If so, you need an action-based plan to do it. You don’t need a plan to make the work. But you need a plan—a specific plan that you execute through action—to figure out what to do with the work. To figure out how to sell it, market it, price it and protect it.”
