Jack is a plein air oil painter living in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He’s a member of Oil Painters of America, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, and Plein Air Artists of Colorado. After retiring from a career in energy efficiency and sustainability, Jack was looking for an endeavor that would allow him to continue supporting environmental thinking. He returned to the art practice he started in the 1970s while living and teaching on a Native American Pueblo—studying with the famous Zuni painter Alex Seowtewa, known as the Michelangelo of the Southwest. Jack coined the term “SustPAINTability” to explore the nexus between art and sustainability. His images from beautiful western landscapes highlight how important it is to preserve the planet. Jack was an “Artist of Note” in Southwest Art Magazine in November 2020, and an Artsy Shark Featured Artist. www.JackMcGowan-Artist.com
