On Our Easel – September 8, 2016

Here are some of the things that have been on CHF’s easel over the past monthWho Do You Know-2017 Grant promotion:

  • WALKING THE WALK. With the unveiling of the expanded Clark Hulings archives, the late painter’s estate offers a vibrant example of what working artists need to do to make their own businesses successful. CHF Director Elizabeth Hulings provides an overview of the many resources now publicly available to collectors and fans via ClarkHulings.com, and she explains the importance of protecting an artist’s legacy.
  • DON’T WAIT TO BE SAVED BY A GALLERY. In a recent Q&A, CHF 2014 grant recipient Dannielle Tegeder offers great advice to those artists who are just starting out. “You need to think outside the white box rather than putting all your energy into finding a gallery. You’re creative people. Think creatively about how you live your life.”
  • BEING A PRO. On CHF’s Thriving Artist Podcast, Cristina DiChiera encourages artists to professionalize their art businesses by taking advantage of local resources and business-training opportunities. DiChiera, who is Brown University’s visual arts development manager, also discussed crowdfunding as a tool both for marketing and revenue generation, and offered her insights on choosing grants, competitions, and residencies.
  • SPREAD THE WORD: CALLING WORKING ARTISTS!  From now through September 30th, CHF is accepting applications for our innovative 2017 Business Accelerator Program and Grants. Working artists receive hands-on business training and one-on-one guidance from our team of experts. Plus, up to ten of our participants will be awarded grants. For more information and to apply, please visit our program page.
